15 goats for education

Billy_goat

When I hear kambing I usually think of my favorite sate kambing grill on jl. karang tengah, or maybe I think of it´s relative, the sheep, which I secretly consider to be my totem animal.

But in this case, kambing (or goat) stands for a genius social initiative thought of and followd through by a group of Indonesian bloggers. This initiative, 'Bloggers for Bangsari' had bloggers collect money for a unique donation: from the collected money, goats where bought and sent to Bangsari, a small town in Java. There, they would be taken care of and bred by school children from poor families, the money arising from this helping to pay their tuition fees. All in all, 15 goats were sent to Bangsari!

Sadly, the blog about this initiative stops its entries with the arrival of the goats at their new home. I would really like to find out what has happened since then, and how the children are benefiting from this action. Are they now able to pay tuition fees and attend school, or are they too busy taking care of the goats?!

update:

The blog does go on reporting about what´s happening in Bangsari! Apparently, the number of goats increased to 43. The initiators of the program have recently visited each of the children taking care of some of the goats.

Working

Fortunately and Thank God, the program has been working properly. Sure, one child will be able to pay his/her tuition fees. How could that be?

When his/her goat is good and mature enough to sell, he/she will do it. The money will be his/her fund to pay tuition fees. But before that, he/she has to look after the goat, including make it breed other goats for other children.

The process will be the same, over and over again. One thing, children in Bangsari are very happy. This program were coming from themself. They really need our favour, but won't take it by free. They will do this as their motivation that school is very important. Looking after the goat is such as their hobby or one of their activities, because they're country people.

More information and explanation, feel free to come to our "post" in Bunderan HI (http://b-h-i.blogspot.com)

about stopping program kambing

the fact is that it is not the goat distribution that being stopped. it is the fundraising to buy the goat that is suspended. but bear in mind: temporarily. we need to have some time in order to channel the funds that had been collected previously, and ensuring that such fund will go to the right person.

later on, in the beginning of the new semester, where there will be new students entering the school, this program will be opened again. for updated information, feel free to come to the Hotel indonesia roundabout in Fridays, 9 pm till finish. thx

Wadduuuhhh.. udah pulang ke jerman duluan nih...

Hai semuanya,

Thanks for your reply and inviting me to BHI! But, since yesterday, I am already back in Germany! Wahhhlaahhh....

I might be back in May this year though and hope the invitation still stands then. I also hope to speak with someone in more detail about the Bloggers for Bangsari project. Who could give me some time for a chat via Yahoo Messenger?

Bahasa Indonesia bisa juga sih... cuman nggak gitu lancar... =)
